LONDON YOUNG VOICES

Post production on the films from all four participating schools following our autumn workshops is almost complete and a public screening date is now fixed: Wednesday 16th June at Peckham Space, the new multimedia art space in front of Peckham Library. London Young Voices is a 3-year positive media project running up to August 2012.

CTVT’s second educational DVD tackles nutrition and its impact on young people, co-produced with Start Consulting.

Goose Green Primary School was the participating school; Surrey’s Heathside School took a supporting role, sharing its experience of ‘appreciative inquiry’.

Previously CTVT produced a two-DVD pack on Knife Crime with Southwark Police as the coordinating partner. Our latest educational DVD is on the Personalisation of Mental Health Care for the Department of Health.

Mutah aka Napoleon

We worked with the Safer Southwark Partnership and Mutah Beale last week, visiting schools and mosques in the Borough. Mutah has become a friend of Southwark, makes regular trips from the US to the UK bringing his motivational speaking to London’s young people. “Southwark.TV” will be uploadinging a film shortly of this latest week [16-20 November] touring schools clubs and five Southwark mosques, including Harper Road, NASFAT and Peckham mosques, Peckham Academy and South City Radio. CTVT was supported by volunteer filmmaker Tom Brigden.

This will be followed by the production of a full length documentary for DVD release and distribution on the history, culture and impact of Southwark Mosques. This project is being directed and produced by Chris Haydon, involves the training of a group of local young Muslim youths who will become part of the production team, and is due for completion in April 2010.

SOUTHWARK.TV ARCHIVE

We are planning to launch a digital film archive, particularly for Southwark.TV partner groups and schools but also available to all filmmakers, of all ages and abilities, in the south London area. More information as we proceed with this venture.

HERT-ATTACK

Look out for the CTVT inspired project “Hert-Attack” [www.hert-attack.net] running at Hertford Regional College where students are creating a locally focussed website delivering their own brand of content to local people. Target audience 16-24. It has been driven by second year National Diploma media students who have had fun building the project from nothing, using skills from presenting to video production, shooting videos, bands, 5-a-side footie … including a long day by the ‘red carpet’ in Leicester Square for the Bond Premiere of “Quantum of Solace”, and a trip to Wembley following the pumped up fans of Stevenage Borough FC who went on to win their Final at the national stadium. Most of the team took away genuine experience – you might say work experience having spent nine months in a formal production team producing media for a public website.

As of September 2009, the project has been running under the heading of ‘Social Action and Community Media Production’, seeking to deliver much more of a focus on the local community rather than exhibit the video production skills learned on the course. Beyond doubt is the value to the students of collaborating on a large, external project, designed to forge links with real people outside college.
